Highlights

Itinerary
Visit Nara Park and Todai-ji Temple, meeting the gentle deer up close and taking in the world's largest wooden building and its Great Buddha. Kasuga Taisha Shrine is solemn and sacred, its vermilion halls and ancient lanterns creating a hush that lets you sink into the calm and cultural depth of the old capital.
Omihachiman shows off the charm of a traditional canal town, and you can take a boat along its old waterways. La Collina marries nature with architecture and is a hugely popular stop for sweets and shopping. In the afternoon board a Lake Biwa sightseeing cruise for sweeping views of lake and mountains, wrapped in nature.
Stroll Nanzen-ji Temple for the beauty of Zen, then head to Kifune Shrine, approached along a mountain stream, cool and tranquil. The Garden of Fine Arts, Kyoto recreates Western masterpieces on outdoor ceramic panels, blending nature and art in a style all its own.
The Kitano Ijinkan district preserves a cluster of Meiji-era Western residences, a window on Kobe's early Western culture. In the afternoon Kobe Harbor and Mosaic offer harbour views, shopping and free time for a meal, with all the romance and foreign flavour Kobe is known for.
Start at Tennoji Park for a dose of urban greenery, then climb Tsutenkaku Tower to look out over Osaka. Osaka Castle, steeped in history, bears witness to the footsteps of the warlords of the Sengoku era. In the evening explore Shinsekai for authentic local food and a lively atmosphere.
Spend the morning shopping and taking photos around Dotonbori, Osaka's liveliest district. Then head to Rinku Premium Outlets for a last round of brand shopping before an easy transfer to Kansai International Airport, flying home with memories to spare.
