Overview

Tour Overview

Hakodate is famous for its cosmopolitan harbour atmosphere and a night view of world renown. This private charter links the Motomachi historic foreign quarter and the picture-postcard Hachiman-zaka slope with a harbourside stroll past the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse, then takes you up the Mt. Hakodate Ropeway at dusk to the observation deck, where the bay and the city's sea of lights weave together into the million-dollar night view. Depending on your departure time, the Hakodate Morning Market can be added for a seafood breakfast. The focus here is the night view and the red-brick harbour mood rather than the autumn leaves of Kosetsu-en Garden, making it ideal for anyone who wants Hakodate's daytime and night-time essentials in one day.

Good to Know

  • Best time for the night view: we recommend timing the ascent to the day's sunset and the moment the lights come on; in peak season there may be queues for the ropeway. Tell us when booking which time you would like to see the night view and your driver will plan the day's departure around it.
  • Ropeway operations: the ropeway may be suspended in strong wind, thunderstorms or for maintenance. In that case the summit can be reached by sightseeing bus or taxi (charged separately), and your driver will discuss the alternatives with you.
  • Warm clothing at the summit: the top of Mt. Hakodate is windier and colder than the city, so bring a windproof jacket and gloves for the evening, and wear comfortable non-slip shoes for the slopes and the observation deck.
  • Child seat regulations: Japanese traffic law requires children under 6 to use a child safety seat. Please tell us the number and ages of young children when booking so that suitable seats can be provided free of charge.
